Daffodil Day 2005

The Irish Cancer Society's annual Daffodil Day is aproaching. Over 5,000 volunteers are expected to take part selling daffodil's on Friday March 11th. For more information on how you can get involved or how you can help, click on the link above or the button on the right.

Money raised from the sale of daffodils on this day will be used to help continue fund nursing care for those suffering from cancer. The Society estimate that 21,500 new cases of cancer will be diagnosed in Ireland alone this year. That's a lot of nursing care required!

Well Slap Me On The Back

I found this piece on Gavin's Blog (Love your site by the way!) which led me to this piece on blúire's blog (Love your site by the way!) in relation to an article that those bastards (and I may have used the word in the wrong context, so I'll apologise now) over at the Irish Times (Love your site by the way, pity about registration and subscription though!) published in relation to irishblogs.

It would appear that this piece instead of promoting what should have been a lively debate about the irish blogosphere has incited hatred for poor Robin who has felt it necessary to resort to commenting on the same self serving and back slapping blogs in defence of the aforementioned piece.

Over at blúire's site, Robin admits to making "sweeping generalisations" in relation to Irishblogs. A little further research may have enabled a little less generalisation and a little more informative journalism. Perhaps Irishblogs cover the areas of Irish Life that those lofty publications such as the Irish Times neglect. Each serves its own market, if Robin feels that there is an area or niche that is being neglected, such as political life, then perhaps he should look at maintaining such a blog?

In the meantime, I'll leave writing about political spin and mumbo jumbo up to the Monica's of this world who are paid €300,000 to do it and stick to rule 1 of the beginning writing class;

1. Write what you know about.

In my case that means whatever the f8ck I want to write about, and if that means me, well so be it.

This Valentino is not Commercial

I don't know about any of the rest of you, but I think Valentines Day is just another excuse for the commercial powers that be to pick our pockets. I don't think I need an occassion like Valentines Day, created by a greeting card company to show how I feel about someone.

So in a move to get away from the traditional Valentines Day commercialism, we celebrated our Valentines Day on Saturday just gone. Sure, I got the flowers, an arrangement of white lillies and decorative bamboo along with the card for my loved one, but the best bit of the night was the dinner we cooked at home. We got out the good silver, a good bottle of wine we had sitting on the wine rack and some candles. G rustled up a storm in the kitchen and I selected a little music to set the mood. We had a beautiful pasta dish followed by profita rolls and a glass of Baileys Irish cream.

A few friends dropped over to the house for drinks after dinner.

In all, a pleasant night and not at all commercial!

Hot Wired

I was left at home this morning with no keys to my car. I had to get a certain someone to come home from their workplace with my keys. Up early, left sitting in the house with no way to get to work that wouldn't take two hours, I never wished I could hot-wire a car more!
